Funny Strategy Takedowns: Koga
Jul. 21st, 2012 06:19 pmPlaying LeafGreen. I do have these for previous gym leaders too, but this one was absolutely hilarious. Actually, the whole gym was hilarious since I cleared most of the trainers with Poliwrath. Yes, even the ones with Drowzee and Hypno. Pidgeot handled the rest.
The man himself, though? Fell to a well-trained Butterfree. Butterfree sweep.
Yes, Butterfree.
Butterfree is actually an excellent Pokémon to take on Koga with, for a few factors:
1. Compoundeyes, its only ability, makes Sleep Powder almost never miss.
2. It's quite fast.
3. It learns Psychic moves.
4. Safeguard.
I have a +SpAtk Butterfree with a Twistedspoon, so that worked out pretty well for me.
Moveset: Sleep Powder, Psybeam/Psychic (I used Psybeam), Safeguard, any other thing.
Start off with Sleep Powder on his first Koffing, then set up a Safeguard. Continue your psychic attacks until the Safeguard falls--both Koffings should go down in one hit, or they did for me anyway--then put the next thing to sleep and repeat. Koga does have a Full Heal, but he used it on the second Koffing for me so it didn't matter. Even if he does get in hits on you, he can't poison you--which is the real threat anyway, since he likes to use Toxic.
It's pretty damn fun to do. It's really fun to turn his status-effecting tactics back on him while denying him the ability to use them. It's especially fun to sweep people with a Butterfree, especially gym leaders.
Team Flying Fist will, in the end, consist of Charizard, Pidgeot, Butterfree, Poliwrath, Magneton, Articuno. (Magneton counts enough as 'flying' because it hovers, and Poliwrath is of course the fist in the name.) Koga was the roadblock toward getting my last two party members and now he's no longer a problem.

Part Four: In Which the Game is Utterly Broken
Last time on TCG, some months ago (sorry), we completed flattened the person who is theoretically the best Grass card user there is.
I say theoretically because I am about to prove I understand proper Grass usage much better.( And how! )
Next Update: Our third medal, and what's all this about a tournament?
[So, for the third medal, we have several options.
The first is the Water Medal, and also probably the easiest since we already have a Lightning deck. Or we could hunt down the members of the Fighting Club and go get that medal, though I'd rather have a few more Psychic types first. Or we could lump together a Water/Fighting deck and pounce on the Fire Club. What's it gonna be?]

Part Three: Where the Hell is Nikki?
Last time on TCG, ourhero protagonist got his deck, fixed it up a bit more, and knocked around a girl in a card game.
Doesn't he feel special.( Battle all the things quest! )
Next Update: We break the hell out of some Rocks. Literally.

Part Two: Mechanics and Grind, Grind, Grind
During this update, I actually received the most essential card in the 'break the Rock Club' deck, but I don't have enough Grass Energy to do it the way I want, so that'll hold til after I'm done with Grass Club. Just means less grinding later.
Onward!( The people at the forum chose Squirtle, so... )
Next Time: Why the hell isn't the Grass Master in her battle hall, and why do I have to beat up a bunch of preteens to find her instead of looking at all eleven locations in the game?
